TeeShirt Quilt Project – 01/10/2012

Yesterday I received a bag of Tee-shirts to be used in the making of a quilt. So last night the first step was to take a picture of the shirts to create a layout(s) for the client to choose a design that they like.

Step 1: Taking photos of the shirts

The stack of tee-shirts that the photos where taken from.

Step 2:  Starting the initial layout

Pictured above is the photo of the shirt on the right hand screen and the preliminary layout on the screen on the left.

Step 3:  The initial layout

The first tee-shirt layout

Step 4:  Preparing a second layout

The screen shows the 'blocks' or elements of the quilt border being changed for a second layout.

Step 4a:  The second layout

Shown above the second layout

 4b:  The third layout

Currently, the client has layouts 2 & 3 for considerations and may want something. I will continue this once I know the direction the client wants to go in.

I am placing a visual record my quilting and fiber art projects. I also hope to shortly start posting short video clips to show what I’m doing. I would like to get the word out about how I use the traditional quilt as the means to show photographs and images that individuals, families, even as displays for businesses. With traditional photographs stored in boxes and albums which very few people get to see and digital images stored on hardrives or in the “clouds”, I hope that this blending of a traditional craft and images becomes a popular form of art for displaying family photographs and memories that can be past person to person, through families and as a legacy between generations.
